Skin and Laser Resurfacing Atlanta

scar

Dr. Kim offers a variety of noninvasive skin resurfacing procedures to slough off old skin and reveal the younger more vibrant glow below the surface. These procedures may complement surgery or be used instead of surgery when the desired result is less dramatic. Dr. Kim will be happy to help you assess your individual situation and determine what is best for you.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion removes the upper most layers of facial skin with the use of a rapidly spinning wheel with a roughened surface similar to fine-grained sandpaper. This device gently abrades the skin to improve vertical wrinkles around the mouth, as well as acne scarring, aging, or scars resulting from an accident. It may be preformed on small areas or the entire face.

Erbium Facial Resurfacing

“The Erbium laser is the latest advance for the treatment of aging and sun-damaged skin. The Erbium laser provides a safer, more accurate and less painful method of restoring softer, smoother, more youthful-appearing skin. In most cases, patients can have their procedure performed in the doctor’s office and be home that same day.

Thanks to major improvements to laser technology, laser resurfacing has become an attractive cosmetic treatment option for reducing blemishes and minor skin irritations, quickly and painlessly. Kim Facial Plastic Surgery in Atlanta is on the cutting edge of laser resurfacing technology and can work up a comprehensive rejuvenation plan for you.

Indications

Like other resurfacing techniques, laser resurfacing traumatizes the outer layer of skin, which promotes new skin growth, giving you a younger, fresher layer of surface skin. Laser skin resurfacing is used to treat minor skin abnormalities including:
Acne scars, Sun damage, Stretch marks, Hyper pigmentation and Spider veins

Procedure

The procedure may take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour depending on how much of your skin surface is to be treated. In most cases, local anesthesia is used, but general anesthesia may be recommended when treating deeper layers of skin. Dr. Kim moves the laser around with one or two passes doing the trick for most problems. The outer layers of skin are ablated and eventually replaced with new skin without most of the blemishes.

Post Treatment

Following treatment, you may feel like you have mild sunburn and may experience the same minor pain and itching. Typically, these effects only last a day or two. If necessary, pain may be controlled with over the counter medications. Laser resurfacing is not permanent. Your new skin will eventually age again and treatment may need to be repeated.

Dr. Kim of Atlanta is committed to providing the highest quality care to help you reach your cosmetic surgery goals.
