realistic expectation. Together, you will come up with a treatment
plan that meets your individual needs.

1)
How do I know if I am a candidate for cosmetic/plastic surgery?
|
If
you decide to have surgery, Dr. Kim will ask that you obtain
a physical examination, including blood work, from your general
physician to assure that you are in good health, without any
active disease or pre-existing medical condition. You should
be mentally and emotionally stable and have realistic expectations
for your positive post-surgery outcome.

2)
Can I have more than one procedure done at a time?
|
It
is advantageous, if you are considering multiple procedures,
to plan them for the same time. This allows for less time away
from work or social activities and is more affordable than having
the surgeries done separately, because it cuts down on the expense
of duplicate operating facility fees, lab fees, and anesthesia/medication.
There are some issues regarding recovery that may hinder certain
procedures being performed simultaneously, but for the most
part, rhinoplasty, chin/cheek augmentation, eyelid surgery,
and facelift can be done at the same time. You can discuss these
considerations with Dr. Kim and he will advise you based on
your individual situation. |

3)
How do I prepare for surgery?
|
Prior
to surgery, make sure you a) disclose all health information
to Dr. Kim (e.g., medications, smoking, vitamins, etc.), b)
discuss your goals and concerns with Dr. Kim, c) have a thorough
understanding of the risks associated with your surgery/procedure,
and d) have realistic post-surgery expectations regarding recovery
and your resulting appearance. You will be provided with a list
of medications and anti-coagulant herbal remedies that can interfere
with the surgical/healing process and must be avoided prior
to and immediately following surgery. You will also be advised
to defer from smoking for two weeks prior and following surgery
(preferably indefinitely) to promote healing and ensure your
tissues are provided with adequate oxygen. |

4)
What shall I expect on the day of surgery?
|
You
will be given detailed instructions at your pre-op appointment
on when you should arrive at the surgical facility, eating limitations,
and the necessity to arrange for a responsible person to drive
you home from surgery and stay with you the first day and night
following surgery. Most cosmetic surgery procedures are done
in our outpatient setting and can take anywhere from mere minutes
to a few hours. Depending on the type of surgery and your personal
preferences, you may have local, twilight, or general anesthesia
and will receive specific instruction based on your decision.

5)
How quickly shall I expect to recover from surgery?
|
You
will rest in our recovery suite after surgery until Dr. Kim
approves your release and then you should go home and relax
for the rest of the day. Every surgery differs, but most times,
the patient feels only minimal discomfort the same day as surgery.
Swelling and bruising are common and can be alleviated with
cold compresses, head elevation, and mild pain medication, if
necessary. Most patients are back to work and moderate activity
within a week after surgery and strenuous activity can usually
be resumed within a few weeks. Dr. Kim will advise you of your
individual limitations at your post-surgery follow up appointment.
