Facial Contouring and Liposuction

Though liposuction was originally designed for body contouring, it may also improve the ‘jowl-like’ appearance associated with fatty deposits in the neck, cheeks, and chin. It can be performed alone or in conjunction with a facelift, eyelift, and/or browlift and often is complemented by chin and/or cheek implants to provide increased definition and improve facial contouring.

Liposuction permanently removes fat cells by using a small device called a cannula that is attached to a suction pump. The cannula is inserted into small incisions placed in subtle spots on the neck/face or sometimes inside the mouth enabling the removal of excess fatty tissue reveals a more sculptured and contoured face. Fat cells are removed and the incisions are closed with a few fine stitches.

Patients will be provided with detailed instruction for post-operative care at the time of surgery. Liposuction is slightly invasive and will cause some swelling and discomfort that may be alleviated with cold compresses and mild pain medication. The patient will be instructed to wear a snug elastic dressing for a few days following the procedure, and possibly at night for a few weeks.
