Many factors (e.g., stress, age, gravity, and photo-damage) may diminish facial skin elasticity causing a wrinkled forehead and/or furrowed brow. One may appear tired or angry?an expression that does not adequately reflect his/her actual disposition. A forehead lift and browlift entails pulling the skin taut to create a smooth forehead, and a more relaxed, cheerful appearance and may be performed alone or with eyelid surgery, facelift, or skin resurfacing for optimal effect.

Technique

Incisions may be made across the top of the scalp, hidden within the hair, to remove or modify wrinkle causing facial muscles and excess skin. Another technique involves an endoscope, a thin lengthy tube attached to a video camera, which allows the surgeon to work internally on the forehead structure through small incisions within the hairline. At times, a combination of both techniques may be utilized to achieve most favorable results.

Post-surgery Expectations

Patients will be provided with detailed instruction for post-operative care at the time of surgery. Some initial swelling and bruising may result and can be alleviated by keeping the head elevated and applying cold compresses. Mild pain medication may be prescribed. Recovery from browlift usually takes about one week, but strenuous activity should be avoided for at least three weeks. Prolonged exposure to the sun should be avoided for several months following surgery.
