Facelift and Necklift (Rhytidectomy)

Description
A facelift and necklift provides an overall lift to the lower third of your face by tightening loose skin in the neck, cheeks, and jawline. Though it does not remove forehead wrinkles, "crow's feet" or under eye bags, it may be combined with other procedures simultaneously. Facial liposuction may also be used in conjunction with a facelift to remove excess fatty tissue.

Technique

There are varying facelift methods, but generally, incisions are placed within the hairline and along the natural contour of the ear, and sometimes under the chin, so skin may be pulled up and back and removing the excess. Fine incisions are used to optimize invisibility of scars. In some cases, it may be necessary to reposition deeper tissues into a more natural position. Facial liposuction may be used to remove excess fatty tissue, especially from the chin/neck area.

Post-surgery Expectations

Patients will be provided with detailed instruction for post-operative care at the time of surgery. A turban like dressing is worn after surgery for 24 hours and cold compresses are applied to the neck area to assist with swelling reduction. When the dressing is removed, cold compresses are applied to the face and neck for 48 hours. Incisions are cleaned with hydrogen peroxide and frequent showers are taken to irrigate the wounds and keep them soft, promote healing, and prevent scabbing/crusting. Minimal movement is suggested for the first 1-2 weeks, including driving.
