While other cosmetic surgery options, including many minimally invasive ones, cut into the need for a full facelift procedure, they may not be exactly what you are looking for. Indications
Healthy adults who have high self-esteem and realistic expectations make the best patients for facelift surgery. If you are over age 40 and notice that your facial features have changed over the years, you might consider a facelift to help tighten things up and give yourself a more youthful appearance. Contributing Factors
There are many factors that will wreak havoc on your face as you age, including:
- Over exposure to the sun
- Smoking
- Natural loss of skin elasticity
If you are a smoker, you want to give up smoking for at least two weeks prior to surgery. In order not to ruin the effects of the surgery and promote healing, it is best to give it up altogether. Smoking will inhibit the healing process and significantly diminish the effects of the surgery.
Types of Facelift
There are two types of facelift procedure depending on how much needs to be done to correct your particular problem.
- Thread lift, or one hour magic lift is performed on an outpatient basis and literally takes just around one hour. In most cases, you will be able to return to work in just a few days. If you are nervous about undergoing a full facelift, or want to see results relatively quickly, this option might be a good one for you.
- Full facelift surgery is more extensive and is performed on an in-patient or outpatient basis, depending on the extent of the operation.
Procedure
With the full facelift, Dr. Kim makes an incision usually in the hairline and sometimes in the chin area using discreet incisions. The skin is pulled tight and some of the underlying tissue may be adjusted to provide adequate padding underneath. Excess skin is removed and sutured into place. After surgery, a compression type bandage or wrap is applied to ensure proper healing.
A thread lift uses the same concepts, but much smaller incisions are made. Small threads are connected to anchors placed strategically in your bone structure to hold the threads in place.
Both types of facelift procedures may be performed with other cosmetic procedures like liposuction in a total facial rejuvenation package.
